Japan
Japan consists of four main islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku), and hundreds of smaller islands stretching in a series of arcs for nearly 1,874 miles along the eastern edge of the Asian mainland. Her people are hardworking, self-sufficient, and often very closed to the Gospel. Ancestor-worship makes conversion not only a family insult, but a betrayal of one's lost loved ones.

Dear Friends,

I thought you might like to see some pictures of our outing after church on May 29. The Kondo family, recently returned from London. Pastor and Mrs. Hideki Matsuyama. He is doing a fine job as associate pastor of our church. Nozomi Okada and Kitami Tate. Nozomi recently returned from BJU. Kitami is an English teacher at a mission school (high school). She is one of the few Christians on the faculty.

Kaeto Sano--no, he isn't preparing to be baptized again!  I understand it is a rule in his home that the children wash their feet after playing outside in the dirt. When he got back to church after the outing, the two bathrooms with sinks were occupied, so he did the next best thing--climbed into the kitchen sink! He was so cute, but his mom was embarrassed!  I hope he didn't get into too much trouble--he was only doing what he thought he was supposed to do!

Hope you enjoyed the pictures.

Dear Friends,

We had a wonderful Sunday here in Japan. Two accepted Christ as Savior--a 35 year old dentist, Ishii San, and five year old Daisuke Kokubu. A young man who has been facing some difficult times went forward desiring to put Christ first in his decisions. We had the largest attendance in weeks, including two ladies who hadn't been able to attend recently because of serious illnesses.

Please pray for each of these people. Today was definitely a day when many prayers were answered.

I would also appreciate your prayers for Pastor and Mrs. Maruyama as they go to Myanmar (Burma) from the 9th to the 22nd.

Sincerely,
Martha Cochran

Daisuke Kokubu, second from the left.
