Visible vs. Invisible
by Marianne Carpenter
As for man, his days are like grass; as a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more and its place acknowledges it no longer. But the loving kindness of the Lord is from everlasting on those who fear him (Psalm 103:15-17).
I was standing on grass grass where my childhood home once stood. It was in November, when we visited the farm where I grew up. In the summer the farmhouse had burned from a lightning strike. Here there was only a grassy patch where the house had stood, a patch that looked too small to have ever contained a house. This emotional time brought to mind the temporary nature of our lives. This experience and the troubles of this world drove me to seek GodÕs view of the permanent.
Do not love the world nor the things of the worldÉThe world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever (I John 2:15,17).
My soul, wait in silence for God only; for my hope is from Him (Psalm 62:5).
My flesh and my heart fail, but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion forever (Psalm 73:26).
God strengthen and help you dear friend. Keep your eyes always on the invisible things. The visible ones are merely transitory. Nothing is worth living for unless it is worth dying for. And I would ask you, Òwhat are you living for?Ó Elisabeth Elliot
Take the world, but give me Jesus,
All its joys are but a name;
But His love abideth ever,
ThroÕ eternal years the same.
Take the world, but give me Jesus,
Let me view His constant smile;
Then throÕout my pilgrim journey
Light will cheer me all the while.
