Having a Bad Day?

by Cherie Campbell

For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee  (Psalm 31:22).

Whenever I read verses such as this, I can readily relate.  I can momentarily lose my faith in GodŐs promises in the midst of a little trial or discouragement; it does not even have to be anything as huge as what David was going through.  One day recently I got up late, my hair would not cooperate, I had forgotten to do something that was necessary, one of my children needed a paper proofread (in the morning!), one of my children needed a ride to school, I had to drive my husbandŐs car to work, and it was out of gas.  I was smiling on the outside when I got to work, but I was grouchy on the inside!  It was one of those terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days!  The first real smile of the day happened while I was walking to chapel and noticed that I had on one navy blue flat shoe and one black flat shoe.  (Could anything else go wrong with my day?)

It seems that David had a momentary feeling of abandonment by God.  For just a moment he lost his faith in GodŐs goodness.  In his haste, he forgot the promises of His great God.  Thankfully, it did not last long!  David bounced right back from his momentary doubting.

Even while David was doubting, God was still listening.  Thankfully, our Great God doesnŐt wait to see something in us that would warrant His great compassion.  He hears us and supplies our need (even for more faith in Him) because of His great goodness.  Oh that we could bounce back as quickly as David did.  DonŐt stay in that grouchy mood remember the good promises of our Great God!

Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity,
and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage?
he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy (Micah 7:18).
