Praying the Word of God

by Carol Custer

Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me (Psa 119:133).
(from www.blueletterbible.org)

Are you a young person seeking GodÕs will as well as His place for you in a life that will become your goal and passion?

Do you struggle with the daily schedule and find it impossible to pray and read GodÕs word?

Who are your friends?  Are they Godly, a good example in the home and at work?  Are they continually busy in GodÕs work?  Are they faithful in all that they do? Make sure that you have friends who are experienced in the Christian walk, and include some who are older than you and can point you to a life of service and soul winning.

Do you seek GodÕs will and cannot find it?  Try praying the Scripture.  God has given us many verses in the Bible that give us guidance and many promises as well.  Include Bible sentences, verses in your prayers.

Example:  O Lord, my God and Saviour, your Word tells me in Psalm 23 that you are my Shepherd.  Send me your special guidance and help today as I walk the path you have given me.  May I follow your perfect will and give all my desires to you as it says in Psalm 37:4 NASV, ÒDelight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.Ó

Notice the verse at the beginning of this devotional (Psalm 119:133).  Pray the Word back to the Lord.  Include glorifying His Holy Name and the promises for provision, and your desire to follow His will for your life. I remember my Grandfather praying to open the church service.  He would stand silent for a moment and wait until everyone else was silent.  Then He lifted his face up and prayed as though there was no one else in the room.  It was a learning experience for me as a child to hear him pray.

Of course there are always requirements to receiving answers to your prayers.

ÒIf my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their landÓ (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Our prayer time can change our lives in our outlook on what happens to us and give us the spiritual perspective that we need in order to give glory and honor to the Lord and serve Him in every aspect of our lives.

Now, O Lord My Father, My Saviour, My true God, Keep me in your will and your care.  May I honor and serve you as I ought, for your Word says, Òwe are your workmanship Created in Christ Jesus unto good worksÓ (Ephesians 2:10a). For Jesus sake and in His name I pray.  Amen
