Human or Heavenly Hope

by Diane Brown

And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in thee (Psalm 39:7).

When our son was in the hospital, I stayed at the Ronald McDonald House. There were ample opportunities for service. One such opportunity was a young unmarried girl about 17 that gave birth to a baby boy requiring heart surgery. She tried to encourage me and others by saying, ÒDonÕt give up hope.Ó or ÒKeep up your hope.Ó The repetition of the word ÒhopeÓ made it obvious how to begin a talk with her about her source of hope.

Her son made it successfully through surgery and I went to visit her and her son with some gifts a few practical gifts and one gift to point out to her that in Christ alone can we have the certain expectation of a hope that is eternal. Since people new to the Word of God do not often know where to look for this heavenly Òhope,Ó the word ÒhopeÓ was highlighted throughout many verses in the Bible. A seed was sown and IÕve prayed for her from time to time that she found that her source of ÒhopeÓ is built on nothing less than JesusÕ blood and righteousness.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Spirit
(Romans 15:13).
