A Few Minutes of Extra Grace

by Susan Brinley

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work (II Cor. 9:8).

As a dear friend recently waded through the difficulties and concerns of caring for a parent, many prayed for grace and comfort.  The days of encouragement mingled with more days of disappointment and struggle, uncertainty of the meanings of these changes, and all coupled with apprehension and waiting.

How does God work in these days of new questions and strain?  As He always does with His grace and often unexpected sources of encouragement.  Consider my friendÕs testimony of GodÕs presence and encouragement.

I want to share with you how much of a blessing Sam was to me last night.  Sam was working on reciting I Corinthians 10:13.  He must have said that verse to me a dozen or more times each time forgetting a word or inserting a phrase that didnÕt belong.  Since I knew that verse, I wasnÕt following along with the verse, but glanced over to where the definitions were on the page.

I always thought about ÒtemptationÓ as something like the huge piece of delicious looking chocolate cake you know you shouldnÕt have.  The explanation for ÒtemptationÓ in the book was Òchallenge.Ó  So the verse would read

ÒThere hath no challenge taken you but such as many people have experienced the same thing: but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be challenged above that ye are able; but will with the challenge also make a way to escape that ye may be able to handle it.Ó

My dad went into hospital again on Monday. . . I try to give my mom as much physical support as possible sheÕs almost 87.  She wonÕt leave my dadÕs sideÉ I know sheÕs tired because I am exhausted.  And IÕve been feeling like I canÕt do anything, and everything I am supposed to be doing isnÕt getting done.

IÕm sure Sam was getting tired of repeating and repeating that verse, but God used him to speak to me and remind me that He is faithful.  He has helped other people through trying times such as IÕm going through and He will be with me through this time as well.

Grace is no small thing.  And He gives it specifically, perfectly, abundantly.  Have you asked for your grace for today?
