"C-A-I-GO"
by Donna Andersen
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow (Psalm 51:7).
In order to stay sane in the kitchen, I've learned to "Clean-As-I-Go." I'm one of those people who puts away, wipes up, and clears the counters as she cooks. Clutter distracts and slows me down. And besides, it's embarrassing when a neighbor knocks on the kitchen door and I don't want to let her in because my kitchen's in shambles it's not a good testimony to my abilities as a homemaker!
I've also had to learn to be "Cleansed-As-I-Go" to have the clutter cleared away from the counters of my spiritual life, to have sins forgiven that hinder my service for God, that distract me from His purpose, and that mar my testimony. This is the daily, hourly, moment-by-moment cleansing necessary to be able to serve God effectively. The Psalmist acknowledged his need for forgiveness and cleansing when he prayed, ÒWash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin . . . . Create in me a clean heart, O God. . . Ó (Psalm 51:2, 10a).
