Go Home to Your Friends

Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick;
and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven (Matthew 5:15-16).
When I was a new Christian and just beginning to attend a good church, I volunteered to drive an elderly lady to church. She always thanked me profusely for the rides, but I received much more than she did from the arrangement. I enjoyed her so much that I would stop in for a visit when I was in her neighborhood. Each time I visited, we would talk for a few minutes, but we always took time to pray and it had to be on our knees. She would kneel in front of her rocking chair and lean on the cushion. I did the same on a facing rocking chair. After we both prayed, we would go over to the piano and sing hymns. I still canÕt believe that she could reach all of those notes with her very short fingers! I learned while I was very young in the faith what real worship and praise was all about. This happened almost 30 years ago. I donÕt remember her name, but I certainly remember her testimony!
Remember the man from the tombs who had an unclean spirit? After Jesus healed him, the man wanted to follow Jesus, but Jesus would not allow it. Jesus had a much more important job for this man.
Howbeit Jesus suffered him not, but saith unto him, Go home to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and hath had compassion on thee (Mark 5:19).
The Lord has an important job for us as well. God wants our lives to be a testimony of His grace and salvation. Perhaps someone you know needs a word of encouragement from you today. Perhaps someone the Lord brings across your path needs to hear the Gospel. May you find someone today who would be helped by hearing about the great things the Lord has done for you. Go home to your friends!
