Sufficient for This, Too
by Susan Brinley
In the day when I cried, Thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul (Psalm 138:3).
Contemplating this assignment several weeks ago on GodŐs Sufficiency, I assumed (with an unsettling groan in my heart) that I already ŇknewÓ what I would be confronting as a life example in preparation for this topic. I assumed I would be speaking to GodŐs provision and sufficiency in returning our son to Christian school after an enjoyable year of home school.
His ways are not our ways. Have you noticed that recently? As the due date crept closer on the calendar, school finances and daily driving time did not occupy my mind after all. Instead, the faltering health and legalities surrounding my mom, who lives with us, took precedence. A host of problems, questions and decisions ensued, none of which seemed truly satisfactory.
With no sufficiency found within ourselves for this new pathway, we sought God for new strength and help. He is here, too. Stretched and exercised, our faith is being grown to understand GodŐs sufficiency in new arenas. I have found Him sufficient in presence, knowledge, comfort and encouragement. He also provides unexpected gifts of love through a kind word, a praying friend, a glimpse of great beauty in His creation all tangible manifestations of His presence and love. He is good, kind, strong and wise.
As each of us face new seasons, new circumstances and life-altering changes, He is Sufficient. As our hopes, fears, and needs change, He is Sufficient. May we accept change as His choice for our growth, and give clear testimony with new and deeper praise to Him.
For He performeth the thing that is appointed for me:
and many such things are with Him (Job 23:14).
