Waiting
by Susan Brinley
I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in His Word do I hope (Psalm 130:5).
Waiting rooms. Waiting lists. Wait and see. While you wait. Wait a minute. Wait a second. Wait till next year. Wait for me. Wait no more. Wait in line. Wait your turn. Much of our time is spent waiting in some fashion. As believers, we often express that we are waiting on God in something. Have you ever pondered what our waiting means to God? Or considered that waiting may be a gift from a loving Father?
Our prayers and waiting are part of GodŐs gift (His answer) and waiting often brings a greater gift than the one we think we are waiting for. An example might be a problem to be resolved or a spiritual need to be met. We present a prayer request to our Father perhaps time and again and wait. We often experience frustration during the wait, as we know God could, with a word, see this request answered in an instant, and yet we wait. For what? Here are a few possible reasons for waiting:
--We are unaware of some of the behind-the-scenes preparations by God and forget that He often uses many people and circumstances to enlarge the testimony for His glory (Romans 8:28: And we know that all things work together for good).
--Preparations of our heart must also be included. What if God wants to change our heart and prayer from our original request in this matter? Sometimes He is waiting on us (Proverbs 16:3: Commit thy works unto the LORD and thy thoughts shall be established).
--The answer is GodŐs choice at the optimum time. As a sovereign and providential Father, He alone knows best the how, what, and when of our request (Mark 7:37: He doeth all things well).
--Waiting builds patience, endurance, and hope, and it also prepares us for change (James 1:4: But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing).
Still waiting for something? In light of eternity, our waiting is small. In GodŐs eyes, however, no time is wasted as we wait for Him to work if we wait by and through His grace. IŐm trying to view it more from GodŐs perspective while I wait, too.
Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart.
Wait, I say, on the LORD (Psalm 27:14).
