Thank God!
by Cherie Campbell
I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth (Psalm 34:1).
David wrote this Psalm as he remembered GodÕs mercy to him in saving him from Abimelech. David is resolute and determined to Òbless the Lord at all timesÓ no matter how difficult the situation. This Òat all timesÓ corresponds to I Thessalonians 5:18, ÒIn everything give thanks.Ó We should never be finished with our praise and thanksgiving to God His praise should never cease coming from our mouths at all times and for all things!
When my husband and I were first married, he used to thank me every week for doing his laundry (He was a bachelor for a long time!). It really wasnÕt necessary to thank me so often, but it pleased me that he noticed. He is still very appreciative of all that I do for him! ArenÕt we all pleased when someone acknowledges our work or labor of love? How much more is God pleased when we are thankful to Him for all of his bountiful blessings to us.
LetÕs not be like the lepers that Jesus healed. Out of 10 lepers only one returned to thank Him. Jesus said, ÒWere there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?Ó (Luke 17:17). LetÕs be like David and remember GodÕs unfailing mercy to us. Let us Òbless the LORD at all times!Ó
What a blessed mouthful is GodÕs praise! (Spurgeon)
