Hide and Seek
by Cherie Campbell
For the LORD will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the LORD has been pleased to make you a people for Himself (I Samuel 12:22, NASB).
I was watching two little girls in the church nursery playing hide and seek. After they finished counting to 5 or 7, they would turn around and begin seeking the other. Each of the girls knew immediately where the other was (how many places can you hide in our nursery) but each would avoid that place and look everywhere else first. It was sweet to watch them.
It made me think of the Great Seeker of our Souls. The Lord never hides from us, He only seeks us! First Samuel 12 tells the story of GodÕs people desiring a king. After Samuel pointed out their sin, the people admitted their sin and asked Samuel to pray for them. Even though they had done this evil thing, Samuel still encouraged them to serve the Lord with all their hearts. Samuel assured them that God would not abandon them, even though they most assuredly deserved it for choosing a mere man to be their king instead of the Lord their God.
ÒThe Lord will not abandon His peopleÓ because of ÒHis great name.Ó It is not because of any great things we have done; it is only because of His great faithfulness, mercy and compassion. How many times have we failed the Lord and sought His forgiveness? How many times has He forgiven us and encouraged us in His Word? The Lord is seeking fellowship with us letÕs find Him today!
Only fear the LORD and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you (I Samuel 12:24, NASB).
