The Gift of God
by Susan Brinley
Jesus answered, and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give me a drink, you would have asked Him and He would have given you living water (John 4:10, NASV).
We are familiar with Christs encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well. We may, however, tend to distance ourselves from really identifying with her need because her sinfulness may be different from our own. Consequently we overlook the crucial offer of the Lord Jesus to each of us in this passage.
We often find ourselves needing relief, hope, or change. Whether we are actively seeking God or secretly stumbling through daily life in discouragement and desperation, Christs essential prerequisite remains the same: "If you knew the Gift of God. . . ."
