He Giveth More Grace
by Marianne Carpenter
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that
is in Christ Jesus (II Timothy 2:1).
"Where shall I ever find the strength I need to get through this experience, this ordeal, this day, this week? The answer is: Take it. Take it from the grace which is ours already, in Christ Jesus" (Elisabeth Elliot).
The question on my mind was where will I ever find the strength to deal with my mother's death? I was called to her bedside because we knew that she was dying. Even though she was not conscious, I read Psalm 23 and John 14:1-3 to her. I sang her favorite hymn, "In the Garden," and played a gospel tape that she liked. We spent the day with her struggling to breathe and me trying to encourage both of us spiritually. We had "lunch" together, and then about 3:30 she left me for a far better land. Yes, God's grace is sufficient.
